Traditional Values

Traditional values are important because they help to define and reinforce the cultural and moral fabric of a society. They provide a shared sense of identity and purpose, and act as a guide for behavior and decision-making. In an ever-changing world, where technology and globalization are rapidly transforming societies, traditional values serve as a stabilizing force that preserves the wisdom and experience of previous generations.

One of the primary benefits is that they provide a framework for social interaction and cohesion. When people share common values and beliefs, they are more likely to cooperate and work together towards common goals. This can be seen in the way that traditional values have shaped many aspects of human life, including family life, religious practices, and cultural norms.

For example, a strong emphasis on the importance of family and community makes for a respectable society. This means that people are expected to take care of their elderly relatives, respect their parents and grandparents, and form strong bonds with their neighbors and fellow community members. These values help to create a sense of social stability and support that is essential for maintaining healthy relationships and a strong sense of personal identity.

In addition, they serve as a moral compass for individuals, helping them to navigate complex ethical dilemmas and make decisions that are aligned with their personal beliefs and values. This is particularly important in a world where many people are exposed to a wide range of conflicting ideas and beliefs on a daily basis. By providing a clear set of moral guidelines, traditional values can help people to stay grounded and make decisions that are consistent with their personal convictions.

Another important benefit s is that they provide a sense of continuity and connection with the past. By learning about and embracing the values and beliefs of previous generations, people are able to connect with their cultural heritage and gain a deeper understanding of their place in the world. This can be particularly important for individuals who are struggling to find their place in society, as it can help to provide a sense of purpose and belonging.

Of course, traditional values are not without their flaws and limitations. In some cases, they may be based on outdated or oppressive ideas that no longer serve the needs of modern societies. However, this does not mean that traditional values should be discarded entirely. Rather, it is important to engage in ongoing dialogue and reflection about the values that underpin our societies, and to work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society that reflects the needs and aspirations of all people.

As of late, our successes are under attack in this country. As a member of the Shakopee City Council I would reinforce the values that Shakopee holds dear.

Free Lunch Program

Free school lunch programs are a vital component of providing equal education opportunities to all students, regardless of their family's financial situation. The free school lunch program in Shakopee, Minnesota is a shining example of how such programs can make a difference in the lives of students and their families and how our tax money is properly spent.

The Shakopee school district provides free lunch to all students, ensuring that no child goes hungry during the school day. This program not only addresses the immediate problem of hunger, but also has a wider impact on students' academic performance, health, and well-being.

Studies have shown that students who are hungry struggle to concentrate and perform well in school. By providing a nutritious lunch, the free school lunch program in Shakopee helps students stay focused and engaged in their studies. This, in turn, leads to improved academic performance and better grades as well as less delinquency. The program also promotes healthy eating habits, as students are exposed to a variety of nutritious foods they may not have access to at home.

In addition to improving academic performance and promoting healthy eating habits, the free school lunch program in Shakopee also provides much-needed relief to families struggling to make ends meet. With the cost of living continuously rising, many families are facing financial difficulties, and the burden of providing three meals a day for their children can be overwhelming. By providing free lunch, the Shakopee school district is taking some of this burden off families and allowing them to use their limited resources for other essential needs.

The free school lunch program in Shakopee is also a testament to the community's commitment to ensuring that every student has access to the resources they need to succeed. The program is made possible through partnerships between the school district, local businesses, and community organizations, all of whom are dedicated to providing a brighter future for Shakopee's youth.

Police

It is my honor today to acknowledge and praise the hardworking and dedicated police officers of Shakopee, Minnesota. The bravery and tireless efforts of these men and women make our community a safer place, and their unwavering commitment to justice and protection should not go unnoticed.

Shakopee is a bustling and growing city, and with that growth comes a heightened need for effective law enforcement. Our police officers have risen to the challenge, demonstrating their expertise and proficiency in preventing and solving crimes, while also showing great compassion and understanding when dealing with victims and their families.

The Shakopee Police Department is a model of excellence, and its officers are at the forefront of that success with Chief Tate leading the way. They are well-trained, highly skilled, and use the latest technology and tactics to keep our community safe. Their quick response times, attention to detail, and innovative problem-solving techniques are just a few of the many reasons why Shakopee is a safer and more secure city because of their hard work and dedication.

These officers also go above and beyond in their duties, volunteering their time and resources to participate in community events and outreach programs. They are not just protectors of the law, they are role models, mentors, and leaders in our community.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the police officers of Shakopee. You are the unsung heroes of our community, and you have my utmost respect and admiration. You have my promise that we will continue to support and recognize your hard work and sacrifices, and we will always remember the debt of gratitude we owe to those who put themselves in harm's way to protect us.

Veteran Services

Our nation's veterans have made enormous sacrifices to defend our country and protect our freedoms. It is our responsibility to ensure that they receive the support and resources they need to successfully transition back to civilian life and lead fulfilling lives.

Unfortunately, many veterans face significant challenges, including accessing quality healthcare, finding employment, and securing adequate housing. These challenges can have a profound impact on their well-being and overall quality of life.

To address these challenges, it is imperative that Shakopee fund programs and services designed to support veterans. This funding should be directed towards initiatives that provide veterans with access to quality healthcare, job training and placement services, and affordable housing.

In addition, Shakopee provide funding for mental health and wellness programs for veterans, recognizing the unique challenges that many veterans face in adjusting to civilian life and the importance of addressing these issues in a comprehensive and compassionate manner.

By providing adequate funding for programs and services designed to support veterans, we can honor the sacrifices they have made and ensure that they receive the support they need to lead successful and fulfilling lives.

Taxes

The importance of low taxes is of utmost priority. As we all know, taxes are a crucial part of our economic system, but at the same time, they can also be a burden on individuals and businesses alike.

Low taxes are vital for Shakopee's economic growth. A lower tax rate not only benefits individuals by giving them more money to spend and invest, but it also creates a more favorable environment for businesses to grow and create jobs. When taxes are too high, it discourages investment, reduces consumer spending, and stifles economic growth.

Low taxes also help to increase the standard of living for all citizens. By allowing people to keep more of their hard-earned money, they are able to invest in their own lives, their families, and their futures. This results in a more prosperous and secure society, where everyone is able to live the life they want and have worked for.

Furthermore, low taxes promote competition and innovation. When businesses are not burdened by high taxes, they are free to invest in new technologies, new products, and new services. This not only benefits the business owners but also the customers, who have access to a wider variety of products and services at a lower cost.

Low taxes are vital for a healthy and thriving economy. They provide individuals with more money to spend, help businesses grow and create jobs, increase the standard of living, and promote competition and innovation. I urge all of you to support policies that encourage low taxes and a strong and vibrant economy.

TIF Funding

Ian Osborn opposes Tax Incremental Financing, a method of financing economic development projects. Tax Incremental Financing, or TIF, diverts property tax revenue from existing government entities such as schools, libraries, and public safety departments to pay for new developments. This creates an unfair burden on taxpayers who must continue to pay for essential services while their tax dollars are being redirected to fund projects that primarily benefit private developers.

TIF has been marketed as a way to stimulate economic growth and attract new businesses. However, there is little evidence to support the claim that TIF has any significant impact on job creation or economic growth. In fact, TIF can lead to gentrification and displacement of low-income communities as well as a widening of the wealth gap.

Furthermore, TIF often lacks transparency and accountability. The process of selecting TIF projects is often controlled by a small group of individuals, leaving the public with little input or influence as seen in Shakopee's Rahr project which cost tax-payers of Shakopee millions while creating only 28 jobs. This leads to a concentration of power and decision-making that is not representative of the wider community.

In conclusion, TIF is a flawed system that places an unjust burden on taxpayers and undermines the principles of fairness and transparency. We need to find alternative methods of financing economic development that do not prioritize the interests of a few at the expense of the many.

Subcontracting

The use of subcontractors in the Shakopee government has become a widespread practice, often leading to wasted tax funds to the tune of millions per year. The unequal distribution of benefits and the lack of proper oversight and accountability leads to multiple payments for the same work. For example, the same wetland survey can end up being done multiple times which the community is forced to pay for.

It is the responsibility of Shakopee's government to ensure that the services they provide are of high quality and that the workers delivering those services are treated fairly. The use of subcontractors can undermine these objectives by creating a lack of accountability, diminishing transparency, and allowing the city officials to dictate which businesses are successful.

Therefore, it is imperative that Shakopee adopt a policy against the use of subcontractors for the provision of public services. This policy should require Shakopee government to directly hire and manage the workers who provide public services, ensuring that they receive fair compensation, adequate benefits, and the necessary protections and rights.

In addition, the policy should also require regular assessments of the quality and cost-effectiveness of services provided by contractors and subcontractors, and to regularly evaluate and monitor their compliance with labor and employment laws as well as cost-benefit analyses.

By taking this stance against the use of subcontractors, Shakopee can ensure that public services are of high quality, that workers are treated fairly and with dignity, and that taxpayer dollars are being spent effectively and efficiently.
